Transbay paper tickets have been replaced with TransLink, the Bay Area's convenient smart card for paying transit fares. AC Transit was one of the first transit agencies to launch TransLink, and transbay riders have been leading the way in card usage.

Starting Thursday, October 1, transbay paper tickets will no longer be accepted on board buses, and riders who have not already made the switch to TransLink will need to either get a TransLink card this week or pay their fare with cash.

There are two exceptions:

1.      RTC card holders may use a local 10-ride ticket to supplement their fare for transbay trips.

2.      UC Berkeley Class Pass holders may continue to use their card for transbay trips.

Please be sure to have the correct type of fare with you on Thursday. If you still have old papers tickets, you may exchange them for a TransLink card with equivalent value added to it.You can exchange old tickets through October 30 at AC Transit's downtown Oakland ticket office (1600 Franklin St.) or by mailing in a downloadable exchange form.

As a reminder, if you have used 10-Ride paper tickets and are now using TransLink, you can load cash ("e-cash") onto your TransLink card. The card automatically deducts the correct fare each time you use it. If you had used 31-Day paper transbay tickets, you can load the equivalent of a 31-Day ticket (pass) onto a TransLink card.

For details about adding value to your TransLink card, and a list of retail locations where you can add value or redeem paper transit vouchers for value on your TransLink card, visit www.translink.org
