AC Transit, along with other public agencies, is monitoring the spread of swine flu.

What We Are Doing
We are in touch with federal and local transit agencies and are sharing information.

We are recommending that AC Transit bus operators take normal precautions consistent with any flu season.

As buses fuel up every evening, we are disinfecting the interior grab rails, poles, and steering wheels. Latex gloves and face masks are available for employees who wish to use them.

What You Can Do
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) advises that influenza is primarily spread person-to-person through the coughing or sneezing of infected people. The advice is to follow basic hygiene and good health practices such as:

  • Carry tissues, hand-sanitizing gels, or disinfecting wipes.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, which helps to spread germs.
  • When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash.
  • If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  • Best of all, try to stay in good health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. Try not touch surfaces that may be contaminated with the flu virus. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

We will continue to work with other agencies and will let you know of new developments or recommendations.
