More Room for Bikes on MCI Buses AC Transit Marketing 02/12/2007 |

|
Ever found yourself waiting at a transbay bus stop with your bicycle only to see the bus approach and the bike rack full? Well, if it's one of the big green commuter buses (MCIs), all is not lost. Starting February 1, AC Transit allows bicycles to be carried in the cargo bays of MCI buses, if the front rack is full. Each MCI can carry two additional bicycles, one in each of the two bays. The bicycle is placed on the floor, which is carpeted to minimize movement. The bus operator must open and close the bay for the customer. The customer is responsible for placing and removing his/her bicycle. As with the front-mounted racks, AC Transit assumes no risk or liability for damage to or loss of bicycles. Note: A small number of MCIs operating across the San Mateo and Dumbarton bridges are equipped with custom-made racks in the cargo bays. Each of these special racks can accommodate two bicycles.
